Should I click on an email from an unknown sender? Is it safe to click on pop-ups when I am browsing the web? Is my computer safe from malware and viruses? All of these questions will be answered by BBB at their upcoming Cyber Security Seminars in New Iberia and Lafayette in October.
Better Business Bureau Serving Acadiana, as part of its mission to educate and empower consumers and businesses, will host two seminars to inform and assist residents in improving and maintaining computer safety.
The first event will be held at the Main Branch of the Iberia Parish Library in New Iberia October 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Main Branch of the public library at 445 E. Main St.
The second seminar will be held at the Southside Regional Branch of the Lafayette Parish Public Library October 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at 6101 Johnston Street past the mall traveling towards Maurice.
Better Business Bureau Serving Acadiana joins forces with the National Cyber Security Alliance to promote Cyber Security. Each year, millions of individuals worldwide fall victim to cybercrimes, including identity theft, monetary loss and extortion as a result of computer viruses.
BBB staff will conduct a presentation, approximately 45 minutes, followed by a “Question and Answer” session featuring local computer security experts from CBM Technology and Enterprise Data Concepts (EDC).
National Cyber Security Awareness Month, is designed to engage and educate both the public and private sectors. Its goal is raising awareness about cyber security and the importance of being ready to react quickly when there is a data breach involving a large national retailer.
Computers and smart devices have become an integral part of life for most. Residents use the internet at work and home, for enjoyment and to stay connected to those close to us. But in doing so, consumers and businesses must make the effort to do so safely. Cyber security is a shared responsibility. Breaches in cyber security can have a disastrous effect on finances, identity and privacy.
According to the Office of the US Attorney cybercrime is one of the greatest threats facing our country, and has enormous implications for our national security, economic prosperity, and public safety. The range of threats and the challenges they present for law enforcement expand just as rapidly as technology evolves.
